History Repeats Itself

"Turkey ruled Lebanon for about 400 years during the Ottoman Empire and many Turkish officials are keen for their country to have a say in an area that they regard as Turkey's back yard."

The Arabs don't see this as something negative?!! How soon the Arabs forgot the gruesome details of Ottoman rule in Syria, Lebanon and Mesopotamia! what a short memory they have, no wonder they don't have peace. History repeats itself.

David vs Goliath, or should we say Mohammed vs David?

Military sources in Israel announced that 400 of the 1200 Hezbollah "terrorists" have been killed. That's to say, a mere 1200 fighters have been standing against the tens of thousands of soldiers, who are equipped with the most advanced weapons, and hundreds of thousands of Israeli citizens are still under rocket fire while Israeli soldiers continue to be killed.

The new proposals of the Beirut government have lit red lights in Jerusalem. The Lebanese government proposes to deploy 15 thousand Lebanese troops along the border, declare a cease-fire and get the Israeli troops out of Lebanon. That is exactly what the Israeli government demanded at the start of the war. But now it doesn't look very well. It could stop the war without an Israeli victory.

The paradox: the Israeli government is rejecting a proposal that reflects its original war aims, and instead demands the deployment of an international force, which it objected at the start of the war.
That's what happens when you start a war without clear and achievable aims. Everything gets mixed up.

Ariel Sharon had the experience. I bet he wouldn't have started this war as it is now, or maybe he was 'silenced' because he was against it in the first place???

and Victory to...

On the 44th day after the start of the war, Hezbollah is still standing, undefeated; a few thousand fighters, standing up to one of the strongest armies in the world, with tens of thousand fighters, and has not been broken after a month of "annihilation". The armies of Egypt, Syria and Jordan have been beaten in wars that were much shorter.

Clearly, Israel was not prepared for this war and were caught by surprise.

General Dan Halutz, was asked what he feels when he drops a one-ton bomb on a residential quarter and answered: "a slight bang on the wing." He also added that he sleeps well at night.

Halutz believed that it was possible to crush Hezbollah by aerial bombardment, supplemented by artillery shelling from land and sea. He believed that if he destroyed the towns, neighborhoods, roads and ports of Lebanon, the Lebanese people would rise and compel their government to remove Hezbollah. For a week he killed and devastated, until it became clear to everybody that this method achieves the opposite - strengthens Hezbollah, weakens its opponents within Lebanon and throughout the Arab world and destroys the world-wide sympathy Israel enjoyed at the beginning of the war.

The Israeli intelligence used thousands of collaborators that have been recruited in the course of 39 years by torture, bribery and extortion (junkies needing drugs, someone begging to be allowed to visit his dying mother, etc.) Clearly, no collaborators were found among the Hezbollah, and without them intelligence is blind.

A strong army cannot defeat a guerilla organization, because the guerilla is a political phenomenon. The stronger the army, the better equipped with advanced technology, the smaller are its chances of winning such a confrontation.

The war has proved that Hezbollah is a strong opponent, and any political solution in the North must include it. Since Syria is its strong ally, it must also be included. The settlement must be worthwhile for them too, otherwise it will not last.

The price is the return of the Golan Heights.

Turkish Soldiers in Lebanon?

What kind of logic will permit acceptance of Turkish soldiers in Lebanon?
A) The Martyr square, in the heart of Beirut, is a reminder of the Turkish atrocities towards Lebanese.
B) The Turks are Sunnis and they will be allowed to 'police' the Shiite Hezbollah??  that's like putting oil on fire!
C) Turks and Iranians are not on friendly terms, is this a message to Iran perhaps?  or just a preparation for an attack on Iran soon...
D) Turkey is a close ally of Israel, hence they might side with the Israelis and be their puppet in Lebanon.
E) In all Turkish history, all they have done is destruction and terrorism, what makes us think it's different now?
F) Before getting them as UN peace keepers, they should first withdraw from the illegally occupied lands of Cyprus, Greece and Armenia (to name a few)
G) Turkey is against freedom of speech, does this mean they will oppress people who 'speak' in Lebanon?
H) There are about equal number of illegal prisoners in Turkish prisons as there are in Israeli prisons, sounds familiar?
...there are many other reasons to oppose the deployment of the Turkish forces in Lebanon.

The Lebanese government should've been opposing the Turkish deployments but for some weird political schema they are not, even the Shiites are silent!
This shows how narrow minded and short-sighted are the Lebanese people.
No wonder Lebanon is unstable for so many years...!

US forces and their allies have been deployed in Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Iraq, Israel, Turkey, Afghanistan and now Lebanon.  Looks like they are systematically surrounding the region and making sure that the Arabs will never get enough strength to defend themselves...

Rules of the Western Media in dealing with the Middle East

Rule 1: In the Middle East, it is always the Arabs that attack first, and it's always Israel who defends itself. This is called "retaliation".

Rule 2: The Arabs, whether Palestinians or Lebanese, are not allowed to kill Israelis. This is called "terrorism".

Rule 3: Israel has the right to kill Arab civilians; this is called "self-defense", or these days "collateral damage".

Rule 4: When Israel kills too many civilians. The Western world calls for restraint. This is called the "reaction of the international community".

Rule 5: Palestinians and Lebanese do not have the right to capture Israeli military, not even a limited number, not even 1 or 2.

Rule 6: Israel has the right to capture as many Palestinians as they want (Palestinians: around 10000 to date, 300 of which are children, Lebanese: 1000s to date, being held without trial). There is no limit; there is no need for proof of guilt or trial. All that is needed is the magic word: "terrorism"

Rule 7: When you say "Hezbollah", always be sure to add "supported by Syria and Iran"

Rule 8: When you say "Israel", never say "supported by the USA, the UK and other European countries", for people (God forbid) might believe this is not an equal conflict.

Rule 9: When it comes to Israel, don't mention the words "occupied territories", "UN resolutions", "Geneva conventions". This could distress the audience of Fox.

Rule 10: Israelis speak better English than Arabs. This is why we let them speak out as much as possible, so that they can explain rules 1 through 9. This is called "neutral journalism".

Rule 11: If you don't agree with these rules or if you favor the Arab side over the Israeli side, you must be a very dangerous anti-Semite. You may even have to make a public apology if you express your honest opinion (isn't democracy wonderful ?).

Galloway, a person who understands the situation.

A Protest Against Operation Of Israel In Lebanon

Yerevan, August 15. ArmInfo. "The plans of the USA and Israel to unleash a large-scale war and involve Iran into it constitute a direct threat to Armenia, particularly, to the liberated regions of Nagorny Karabakh, which the USA tries to turn into a springboard to invade Iran," say the representatives of the International Committee of the Armenians Concerned over Lebanese Confrontation at a press conference in Yerevan, Wednesday.

The developments in Lebanon cannot be called a fight of one nation, one community, for survival. Such wars aim to break the national consciousness of peoples, said Secretary of the Committee, Raffi Papikyan. He said the Committee calls on Armenians world wide to raise a voice of protest against the military crimes, "in order that our people or other peoples avoid a situation when there is no one to rely on."

Political expert Levon Melik-Shahnazaryan drew the attention of those present at the fact that only three states rendered technical support to Israel: USA, Turkey and Azerbaijan. All the Iraeli equipment worked on fuel that Tel-Aviv received through oil pipeline Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan. Israel received all the military supplies from the USA through Turkish military base Injirlik. L. Melik- Shahnazaryan assured those present that Israel's plans were a failure. It is for the first time that Israelis felt war aftermath in their territory. Mossad, Israel's intelligence agency, known as the most perfect special service in the world, did not notice the colossal work carried out in Southern Lebanon: the construction of underground tunnels. "The military spirit of Israel is not like it was three dozens of years ago. Moreover, the fighting capability of Arab military formations has been improved," the political expert said.

The analyst Igor Muradyan said the military operation of Israel in Lebanon could be caused by the self-reformation of Hezbollah, which showed the Shiit organization how a fundamental Islamic grouping can make national-liberation ideas a corner stone, refuse from radical demands from its country, become an influential parliamentary force. "Hezbollah, Hamas, Muslim Brothers, turning into parliamentary forces have become much more dangerous for Israel," I. Muradyan said.

Why am I using a Blog

Blogs have been around for some time now and I am not surprised of their success. So I want to give it a try and see how it will work for me.
Maybe it will or maybe it won't but hopefully it will not become an addiction!

So stay tuned for more postings and my personal views...
